Y Maryland Early Learning Centre

The YMCA is happy to announce we will be operating both Licensed Child Care and Before and After School Care at Maryland Park School.

The waitlist for all programs listed below will open on March 23rd at 5:30 am. Please follow the link (coming soon). Spots will be confirmed by the end of April. Children on the waitlist will be selected by a lottery system with the following priority criteria:

  1. Children in existing YMCA programs who live in the Maryland Park Catchment area.
  2. Children who reside in the catchment area or who have siblings attending Maryland Park School.
  3. All other children who wish to attend Y Maryland Park shall be drawn by age groupings to fill available spaces.

As we anticipate high demand for both these programs it is important to know the differences between them to make the best choice for your family.  Please review the program information below:

School Age Options (Grades 1-6)

Licensed School Age Care

Y Maryland Park Early Learning Centre is licensed for 30 school age child care spots. These spots are for children in Grades 1-6 who attend Maryland Park School.

  • A School age spot is for Before school (7:30 am – Morning Bell) Lunch time, and After School (Afternoon Bell-5:30 pm). School age spots provide care all year including on Professional Development Days, Winter Break, Spring Break and all Summer.
  • The cost for a school age spot is $10.30 per school day and $20.80 on non-school days such as Professional Development days and Summer break.
  • Payments are due weekly for the upcoming week and are made through a scheduled payment from your credit card or bank account.
  • Families requiring subsidy can apply at gov.mb.ca/childcare
  • Program Ratio is 1 staff to 15 children.
  • You will need to send a Lunch, as well as a morning and afternoon snack.

Before and After School Program (Recreational Program)

The Before and After School Program is a recreation program that cares for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 (Ages 4-12). All participants must attend Maryland Park School. This program will utilize various school spaces including the gymnasium, and outdoor school spaces when possible.

  • Before and After School Program runs from 7:30 am until the morning bell and from the afternoon bell until 5:30 pm during the school year.
  • Before and After Program does not run on days there is no school, for example Professional Development Days, Holidays, and during the summer.
  • Families have the option of registering for morning care only, afternoon care only or both morning and afternoon care.
  • Payments are due the 1st of each month from September 1st – June 1st.
  • The monthly cost for morning care is $86.00, afternoon care is $133.00, and Both morning and afternoon care is $219.00. Payments are made through a scheduled payment from your credit card or bank account.
  • The YMCA in partnership with the United Way provides financial assistance to families that are unable to pay the full fee. To apply for assistance, we require your most recent Notice of Assessment and Child Tax Benefit Notice be submitted to determine if your family qualifies.
  • The program ratio is 1 staff to 15 children. We are unable to provide one on one care for children.
  • Snacks are not provided but children are welcome to bring snacks to the program.

Preschool Licensed Care (Ages 2-6)

Y Maryland Early Learning Centre is licensed for 54 preschool spots for children 2-6 years of age.

  • Preschool spots are $20.80 per day. This program runs year-round from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.
  • Payments are due weekly for the upcoming week and are made through a scheduled payment from your credit card or bank account.
  • Families requiring subsidy can apply at www.gov.mb.ca/childcare
  • Program Ratio is 1 staff to 8 children.
  • You will need to send a Lunch, snacks are provided.

Please Note: Kindergarten children are not eligible for a School Age spot and must register for a Preschool spot. When your child starts Grade 1, they have aged out of the preschool program. We cannot guarantee a spot in the school age program for all kindergarten children and will be using a lottery system to assign available spaces.

Infant Licensed Care (Up to Age 2)

Y Maryland Early Learning Centre is licensed for 20 infant spots for infants up to 2 years of age. When your child turns two and ages out of the Infant program, we cannot guarantee a space in our preschool program.

  • Infant Spots are $30.00 per day.
  • Payments are due weekly for the upcoming week and are made through a scheduled payment from your credit card or bank account.
  • Families requiring subsidy can apply at www.gov.mb.ca/childcare
  • Program Ratio is 1 staff to 4 Infants.
  • You will need to send a lunch, snacks are provided.

  1. How many spaces are in the centre?

Once fully operational Y Maryland Park Early Learning Centre will have 20 infant spots, 54 preschool spots and 30 school age spots. The Before and After School program will have 30 spots.

 

  1. How do I apply for my child to attend a Y Program at Maryland Park School?

Waitlists for all programs will open on March 23rd at 5:30 am on the YMCA’s website at ymcabrandon.ca. Children from the waitlist will be selected based on the criteria noted above and to balance the ages of children in the centre.  Children can be on the waitlist for both programs. All spots will be filled from the waitlists.

 

  1. When will we know if we are accepted into a YMCA Program?

All families accepted into the program will be contacted by a YMCA staff by the end of April. Those not accepted will be kept on the waiting list.

 

  1. What is the difference between Licensed School age Care and the Y’s Before and After School program?

Licensed child-care programs are governed by an established set of regulations and are overseen by Provincial Child Care Coordinators. Centres that are licensed are subject to provincially regulated fees, ratios of trained staff and hours of operation. Licensed programs run year-round in the Y Maryland Early Learning Centre.

The Y Before and After School Program is a recreational program operating within the school. The program will utilize classroom, gym, and other school spaces. The Y Before and After School Program only operates when the school is open.
